Directory of cinemas in Brighton & Hove

This listing includes not only cinemas as such but all other places of any significance where films were shown regularly or occasionally in Brighton and Hove, Southwick and Shoreham. Venues are listed alphabetically; the profile pages generally use the names by which they were best known during the longer part of their existence, with cross-references from alternative names.
• Click on the picture, name or name-change link to go to the cinema's history page.

On these pages ticket prices are shown periodically but do not reflect every change. They are given in old money: 2½d = 1p, 1s = 5p. For comparison, the average price for all UK cinema tickets in 1939 was 10d (4.2p), in 1950 it was 1s 9½d (7.5p), by 1960 it had risen to 2s 6½ (12.7p), in 1970 it leapt to 6s 1½d (30.6p) and in 1980 it stood at £1.42.
