• Designed by Sir Basil Spence and opened in 1969 as part of the University of Sussex but subsequently run as an independent arts facility. Grade II* listed.
1995 April 28 Full cinema facilities opened by Sir Richard Attenborough with a special showing of Oh! What a Lovely War. The screen is 22 ft wide; 350 seats.
2006 November Brighton & Hove City Council withdraws its £30,000 a year grant with effect from April 2007.
2007 end March Gardner Arts Centre closes.
2008 December University of Sussex announces that it will spend £3.8m-£4.8m on refurbishing the centre, to be known as the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts.
2015 September 3 Attenborough Centre for Performing Arts (ACCA) officially opened.
2016 ACCA opens for regular use.
