Brighton and Hove, separately and now jointly, have been marking the locations associated with historical figures (and occasinally events) for 100 years. Brighton Corporation decided in 1923 to mark five locations, where plaques designed by Eric Gill were duly unveiled in 1925. These are believed to be the first plaques outside London. More followed in 1927 but the next significant phase was not until the 1980s. Meanwhile the then newly-formed Regency Society erected the first of its 15 plaques in 1952 and a year later Hove Borough Council joined in. When Brighton and Hove were joined together as a unitary authority in 1997, a Blue Plaque Panel was set up and has administered 'official' plaques since then. However, there have been a number of other plaques placed throughout the years.
These are the plaques erected in Brighton & Hove, in alphabetical order of street address according to each commissioning body.
The date in brackets, where shown, is that of erection.
